A Brief History
- THE STORY-
“An on going folk music series Michael started as an answer and alternative to a lot of 'clique oriented pretentious showcase nights'
He christened it:
'The Outlaws of Folk Music Series' .
The series was named by CBS Los Angeles as 'Best Folk Music Show’ .
The first shows were held at Alta Coffee in Newport "I started it so me and friends would have someplace to play hang out and not have to kiss ass to promoters and we could be creative and play our own songs & stuff you don't hear all the time."-says Michael. - The series has now expanded to -Seal beach -Newport Beach -Long Beach & East Hollywood and been running 10 years -keeping with its 'Street' & 'anti-mainstream vibe.' The fans and misfits who come and support the night are just as important as the performers & creates a sense of community.
Michael hand picks 'kindred spirit' musicians- established recording artists, touring,local singer songwriters & up and comers to do the night with him .
Everyone along with Michael do their own thirty minute set each - sometimes a final 'Sing Out' jam at the end of the show together.
'Outlaws' brings the attitude & spirit of NY Greenwich Village early folk boom but with a modern 21st century creativity relevant to today. The shows are all age and great for family & friends

Bogarts Coffee House -Seal beach 1st Thurs. each month-7 til 9pm
Portfolios Coffee House in Long Beach-first Sat each month 6 til 9pm
Chads Barber shop Santa Ana 2nd Sat each month
7pm til 9pm
Sabor y Cultura Coffee House East Hollywood.-Last Wed each month 7 til 9pm
Muldoons Irish Pub Newport Beach -Last Sunday each month afternoon 2-4pm outside on patio

Its strictly pass the hat .. pay wise but its the real deal & fun. The Coffee house’s & pub are cool and the people who work there are simply the best folks you could meet .This is NOT an open mic. you have to be booked to play the series.
